San Francisco Urban Community Housing Corporation (SF Urban CHC) and Homeownership San Francisco (HomeownershipSF) are hosting a forum with select San Francisco Supervisorial Candidates and housing policy experts to explore affordable homeownership opportunities in San Francisco. Achieving Affordable Homeownership Goals in San Francisco and will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 1111 Gough Street, in San Francisco.

Homeownership does not just provide people a place to live – it provides them with the potential to build assets and a stake in their community. Yet, homeownership is not easy to attain in San Francisco due to the lack of affordability and availability of homes. Candidates from Districts 6, 8 and 10 will share their views on how to help more working class families achieve homeownership in San Francisco in advance of the Supervisorial elections.

Blacks have been leaving San Francisco in record numbers. Blacks accounted for 6.5 percent of the population in 2005, down from a high of 13.4 percent in 1970 – the steepest decline of any major US city, according to the US Census Bureau.

No US city has seen a more rapid decline of its African-American population.
By Michael B. Farrell | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor

San Francisco – On a recent overcast Saturday, just before noon, the ministers from some of this city’s largest black churches arrived in their dapper and dark suits, looking somewhat out of place on a dusty construction site.

They had come to break ground on 21 affordable apartments – a joint project between a church-affiliated development group and Kaiser Permanente, the healthcare provider. There were photo ops, the ceremonial shovels of dirt, and, given the number of reverends on hand, plenty of prayers.

Two pictures from a happy client in her new home for the website. More pictures to come soon...

Hello Greg!

Wanted to say many thanks for the work you and SF Urban do, helping first-time home buyers. I attended the mortgage workshop and had a one-on-one consultation with you last fall. At that time, I was looking to purchase a BMR unit, but thanks to your advice and referral to Yvonne Meyer at Wells Fargo, who in turn gave me a referral to a great realtor, was able to close on a regular condo in March. I bought a one bedroom at the Oceanview Village complex.

Again, thank you for helping what seemed like an impossible dream come true. I am attaching a few pictures of me in the new place.
